The graduated pipette is a volumetric instrument for measuring precise quantities of liquid.
It consists of a glass tube with a pointed lower part. This shape allows the withdrawal and subsequent dispensing of varying amounts of liquid.
.
The graduation is printed on the glass: a series of notches specifying the volume can be seen.
Type 1, 2 and 3 pipettes
.
There are three types of pipettes on the market:
Type 1 - Partial-drain pipettes, with a 0 (zero) value at the top;
Type 2 - Full-drain pipettes, with a nominal volume at the top;
Type 3 - Full-drain pipettes, with a 0 (zero) value at the top.
Meniscus curvature
As any chemist knows, the meniscus is the curvature of the liquid inside the pipette, the lowest point of which is the calculated volume measurement. In fact, the surface of the liquid inside the tube is not perfectly flat.
USP Pipettes
New DIN EN ISO 835 standards have been issued, which provide for a significant reduction in the waiting time for draining. The time is now reduced to 5 seconds from the previous 15.
The standards stipulate the use of the full-drain pipette with the nominal volume at the top.
For this reason, the use of type 2 pipettes is recommended because they provide full drainage even for partial volumes.
The new pipette models in the catalogue comply with DIN standards and are supplied with a batch number for precise identification. An individual, standard or USP certificate number can also be supplied on request. Calibration certification is also available on request.
The newly manufactured certified pipettes are designed with a tip shape that ensures optimal fluid outflow. They have a strong mechanical resistance for a longer life to avoid wastage.
